Tarpon Springs

Scuba divers under water.

Just 45 minutes north of St. Petersburg is another Florida throwback, a trip to yesteryear in the Greek fishing village of Tarpon Springs. Originally named for its abundance of this sport fish, today Tarpon Springs is best known as the "sponge capital of the world".

With 51 miles of waterfront to explore, a city center on the National Register of Historic Places, Tarpon Springs won’t disappoint. Hit any of the 15 restaurants, check out the historical exhibits, antique shops, galleries and more.
